Happenings
New Kitchen, Enlarged Shop
Progress continues on our new kitchen and enlarged retail shop. We are very excited about the changes because we know it will help us better to serve our customers, the most important part of our pie shop. While remodeling is in progress, our menu will be somewhat altered until we have full use of the new kitchen. However, we will still have a good variety of our favorite pies available, so your visit to the pie shop will be worth the trip. Come on in and see the changes we are making. We hope to have everything in place within the next three weeks. We will be ready for Spring with a new shop and delicious additions to our menu.
The Days of December
After an extremely busy summer and fall, the quietness in town with the advent of winter is allowing us to catch our breaths and to turn our thoughts towards the holiday season still to be celebrated. Country Christmas Saturday was very busy, ending with our well-attended soup supper at the Widespot Performing Arts Center. Now, the pie shop will be open for five more days this year. You can still come and warm yourself with a bowl of delicious homemade soup, a hot Chicken Pot Pie, or Savory Pie. Perhaps you would rather have a sandwich made with our own bread. Finish the year with your favorite slice of pie. While you are here, treat yourself to a loaf of Amy's Handmade Bread.
We'll be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend (December 9 - 1ll) and the next weekend. We will be spending Christmas weekend with our families, so our last day for the year will be Sunday, December 18. Plans are to reopen on Friday, January 6. We look forward to seeing you next year.
Apple Dumplings Are Coming Soon
Apple dumplings will be back to The Stockholm Pie Company the second weekend in September. If you have never had one of our apple dumplings, you must try one before understanding just how good they are. Each apple is peeled, cored, and filled with a mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and butter before being individually wrapped in a special crust. While baking, they are basted with a butter, cinnamon and sugar sauce that makes each dumpling the perfect combination of apple, sauce, and crust. Topped with whipped cream or ice cream, they are a dessert of which dreams are made.
I am often asked how the pie company got its start and if having a bakery or pie shop was a lifelong dream of mine. I must confess that it wasn’t something I had considered doing until I made a pan of apple dumplings and invited my brother, Alan, and his partner, Steve, over for supper. With each bite, they kept repeating, "This is fantastic," "This is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten," and the fateful words, "You could sell these." An idea was planted in all of our minds.
In May 2008, we opened the doors to the pie shop with the notion that some people might like to eat some apple dumplings and some good pie. We had no idea we would get so much response to that notion.
If you haven’t been to the pie shop yet, come on in and treat yourself to an apple dumpling or a slice of pie. Imagine that with a scoop of handmade ice cream or real whipped cream. You will be glad I made that pan of apple dumplings for Alan and Steve.
Visitors from All Over
We get a lot of guests here at the Stockholm Pie Company. We’ve had a guest book since the middle of 2009, and since then we have had visitors from all over the country and the world.
Our first guests to sign were a couple, Ryoji and Mizuho, from Kanagawa, Japan, who were working and living in Minneapolis. While they were in the states, they visited the shop ten times. Before they left for home, they came into the shop to say goodbye and gave us a small beaded dog that Mizuho made and gave to us as a remembrance of them. That little dog still hangs above our coffee pot stand.
Since people started signing the book, we’ve had visitors from a lot of countries, including Malaysia, Germany, Sweden, France, Canada, Denmark, Scotland, Costa Rica, Russia, Switzerland, England, Australia, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and The Netherlands.
Some of our more recent comments include:
"Very good pie, probably the best of United States. We recommend the double lemon."
Two young men from France bicycling from Seattle to New York.
"My first American pie – Yum!" London, England
"Just one word to say … in French – Hummmm! (Yummy). Thank you."
Next time you find yourself in the pie shop, sign the book. It doesn’t matter how far you traveled to get here, we always love to get to know our guests.
Lunch at the Stockholm Pie Company
The Stockholm Pie Company is an excellent stop for lunch. We have a wonderful selection of pot pies, savory pies, sandwiches, and quiches available.
Savory Pies
You can experience a mouthful of flavors with a six inch savory pie of Sausage/Apple/Cheddar Cheese or Bacon/Pear/Blue Cheese. Savory pies combine fresh fruit, meat, a variety of cheeses, spices, and an egg and cream custard surrounded by our flaky pie crust.
Pot Pies
Perhaps you would rather try one of our very popular six inch chicken pot pies. We cook the chicken, make the fillings, and place them between two layers of flaky, delicious crust. For your convenience, you may take home a frozen, unbaked savory or pot pie. It's a good idea to call ahead to check availability of frozen pies or to place a special order.
Sandwiches
New to our lunch choices are freshly made sandwiches featuring Amy's Handmade Bread. Amy is one of our fabulous pie makers and also makes some of the best light rye and whole wheat bread you can find. We always love to make your sandwich to order from our list of breads, meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauces.

We also love to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if requested (especially for kids).
Quiches
Quiches are on the menu during the weekends. If you prefer to special order a quiche, you may choose your favorite ingredients such as bacon, crab, sausage, spinach, mushrooms, artichokes, peppers, onions, and olives. Quiches need to be ordered at least a day in advance. Quiches may be ordered for pick-up during the week, also.
